For the eleventh year, SNU Campers will go through instruction and competition in Southern Nazarene University’s state-of-the-art Sawyer Center.

Recognized as the finest small college athletic facility in America, the Sawyer Center is a multi-million dollar gymnasium that includes two full-length playing floors, a running track, and top-of-the-line instructional facilities.

In 2005-06, the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets called the Sawyer Center home for two seasons, choosing SNU to host the Hornet’s practices.

SNU is still a host for NBA teams coming in to town to take on the Thunder. This past year, SNU hosted the Los Angeles Lakers, New Orleans Hornets, and Detroit Pistons.

SNU Camp for Champs History

The SNU Camp for Champs begins its 24th year of existence in the summer of 2010. Current Director of Athletics, Bobby Martin, started the Camp for Champs in the mid-80’s with one very specific goal in mind, to give children and teens the opportunity to learn a great sport, basketball, in a Christian environment. At the Camp for Champs we have never shied away from the principles that our university was founded on. I believe you’ll find at the Camp for Champs we focus not only on basketball skills, but the principles of character development and Christianity as well.

The name Camp for Champs was chosen for a reason, because we believe that all children are Champions in the eyes of the Lord. At our camp, we will help each young boy and girl to realize the level to which God loves them, while also helping them to realize with hard work and commitment; they too can achieve success in basketball, education, and community.

This summer, the SNU Camp for Champs will be under new leadership as current SNU men’s basketball coach, Adam Bohac, takes over. Bohac was highly successful in his first season as head coach for SNU this past year, guiding the Crimson Storm to a 20-12 record.

Bohac has NCAA Division I coaching and playing experience, serving as an assistant coach at Army for one season and playing collegiately at the University of Nebraska. Campers will receive a great emphasis on basketball skills from a proven leader in Bohac this summer.

Our camp is unique in that we have counselors that will provide your child with detailed, one-on-one instruction. Our counselors are a vital part of our camps, and they are chosen for athletic ability, Christian commitment, and character. We also have our current basketball coaches that serve as drill instructors for our teaching times. Your camper will also be given the opportunity to hear from our counselors about their experiences in athletics and their spiritual life.

When we started the Camp for Champs in 1985, there were basketball camps around, but not nearly to the extent that they have expanded today. Throughout the country, high schools, colleges, churches and professional sports have begun to hold summer camps for young people. While the opportunities for basketball instruction have increased dramatically over the past 22 years, we have found that the principles, through which this camp was founded, still set the Camp for Champions apart from the rest.

You will find that at the Camp for Champs, our goal is to integrate our belief in the foundations of Christianity while helping to develop young athletes into the best basketball players that they can be. We hope that you consider the SNU Camp for Champions for your child this summer.

Bohac also coached the Athletes First AAU Team, guiding that team to a 25-2 record from 2005-07, including four tournament championships. With Athletes First, Bohac coached the L.A. Clipper’s and NBA first round draft pick, Blake Griffin, along with currently Oklahoma State player Obi Muonelo.

Bohac is a graduate of the University of Nebraska, where he played for former Cornhusker’s coach, Barry Collier. Bohac was a First Team Academic All Big Twelve selection in 2004 and a four year letterman. Bohac was Nebraska’s Most Outstanding Attitude Award winner in 2003 and 2004 and was a Big Twelve Commissioners Honor Roll recipient five times.

Bohac went to Nebraska from Kimball High School in Kimball, Nebraska, where he was a standout player during his career. At Kimball, Bohac was an All-State selection in 2000 and was the leading scorer in the state of Nebraska in 2000, averaging 25.6 points per game. Bohac was also an All-State football selection in 2000.

Adam is married to former SNU women’s basketball great, Christie (Rush). The two were married in August of 2008.
